While it seems like we should be doing a whole article about hot cartoon animals, it turns out that animated shows suck this year. And aside from that sort of hot tiger from Battle Force 5 there really wasn’t a lot to look at. So we’re going to talk about regular shows, starring humans.

Damn there were a lot of movies this year! Even between the three of us we didn’t manage to see enough films. Plus half of the films we all saw were total crap, (turns out New Moon still sucks on the 3rd and 4th viewings). But 2009 had some standouts, and before all the bullshit award shows start happening, here’s our picks for some of the best this year.

2009 wasn’t the best year for games. I blame the economy, and possibly Facebook and their shitty games. But it wasn’t a total bust. There were actually quite a few great games to play, so many in fact that I didn’t get to nearly all of them (I try to have a social life, however sad it may be). But of the ones I did play, Here are a few of the standout titles.

Furries versus Steampunk. Why didn’t anyone think of this before?

I can’t seem to get many of my friends excited about a video game unless it stars a hot furry. Which means many of them haven’t played a fighting game since Brutal: Paws of Fury. It seems Nintendo has solved my problem with their newest DSiWare game that launched in Japan last week: Photo Fighter X. What’s cooler than furries in video games? Furries you know personally in video games.

Now I’ll admit I was one of the people turned off by the hype surrounding Avatar. “The greatest adventure of all time” is how every major blockbuster is touted, but to say this film will reinvent movies seems a little absurd. Avatar is a major technical and artistic achievement, though, and it should be seen by everyone, even if it won’t actually change how you experience movies forever.

The third weekend of January will see throngs of furries flocking to the Bay Area for Further Confusion, presumably to compete in a fursuit decathlon and freak out the staff of the new hotel location. And in addition to panels about connecting with your inner fox or whatever, artists and authors will be showcasing their new works. Among them are Kevin Frane and Kyell Gold, both of whom will premiere their new novels. Real fucking books, y’all.

A week ago I had the chance to sit down with Kyell Gold and Rikoshi, a couple of charming and talented local authors. The interview led to a couple of articles, but I figured you guys might be interested in listening to them yap.

I’m going to make this quick because, honestly, the more you talk about a movie the more you just ruin the experience for other people. So let’s cut to the chase: The Princess and the Frog is straight up old school Disney, both good and bad.

Let’s be honest here, guys, reading is a lot of work. It can’t easily be done while multitasking. It requires a level of concentration that TV and video games (and porn) don’t. And unlike most of my recreational activities, I can’t really enjoy it drunk. But by far my biggest deterrent against reading is that books are long, and I’m a busy guy, god dammit. So how can I get my short quality furry fiction fix without playing the Russian Roulette that is YiffStar?
