I want to encourage amateur authors to make that leap into professional writing. God knows it’s hard to write a novel, and it takes a lot of guts to put it out there for everyone to read. This kind of thing should be encouraged. The world needs good writers and I want to find those people that have the talent and the drive to write great literature. As a critic it’s my job to not only praise the authors that produce quality work, but also to critique authors, in the hopes that they become better.

That said, Save the Day is not a good book.

After the first title in the Cupcakes brand, Kyell Gold’s Bridges, was published, we’ve been interested in finding out what the other two authors running this project were working on. Kevin “Rikoshi” Frane is up next with an as-yet-unnamed story set in a medieval fantasy world, and we’ve managed to squeeze a few details out him.

Season Six has, up til now, had a very deliberate group-by-group, character-by-character progression for the story’s setup. Well, now the pieces are all finally in place, and it’s time to set everything going full-speed.

America hasn’t really experienced the kid/teenager ultra-violence films that countries like Japan are familiar with. Which is probably why Kick-Ass is being marketed as a goofy comedy with McLovin. Holy shit it is not that movie.

Yeah, when you saw that this week’s episode was going to be a Hurley-centric one, you thought it was going to be a heartwarming romp through lightheartedness and comic relief. But you were so, so wrong.

The best slice-of-life is supposed to take the ordinary and present it in a way that makes it fantastic. After leaving the quietly wonderful world of the story, you look around to find yours is that world. A good author leads you to find the extraordinary in your own existence. Unfortunately, Seeing Spots by Andres “Cyanni” Halden doesn’t manage that.

Back in high school I was aware of the Insane Clown Posse, but had never bothered to listen to them. I knew that everyone wearing an ICP shirt ranked somewhere among the absolute dumbest people on the planet, but surely the band was fairly normal, right? Holy fuck was I wrong.

I’ve been pretty lucky so far with furry fiction. I’ve read a number of good, and even great novels. It was only a matter of time before I got to a stinker, but I wasn’t expecting Ben Goodrige’s novel Found: One Apocalypse to be this bad. It’s the literary equivalent of dying a horrible decompression death in space.

For whatever reason, Desmond has always been the harbinger of big paradigm shifts in the show. First, it was the introduction of the Hatch. Then, it was the acknowledgment that something more-than-natural was happening with the Island. Then it was having one’s consciousness travel through time. Now, Desmond takes what might be the show’s final step in shattering the remaining paradigm: the alternate universe that came into existence at the beginning of Season Six.

We all know cartoons suck nowadays. Through a combination of cheap animation, and our own nostalgia, and the act that we’re fucking grownups now, cartoons have lost their appeal. That said, Adventure Time with Finn and Jake is fucking awesome and I’m in love with it.
