FA: United 2010 saw the awards ceremony for the 2009 Ursa Major Awards. Nine winners across ten categories received awards based on votes from fans. The full list of winners are below.

Best Novel: Out of Position by Kyell Gold
Best Motion Picture: Avatar, directed by James Cameron
Best Graphic Story: Concession by Immelmann
Best Magazine: Heat #6, published by Sofawolf Press
Best Other Literary Work: Draw Furries: How to Create Anthropomorphic and Fantasy Animals by Lindsay Cibos and Jared Hodges
Best Comic Strip: Housepets! by Rick Griffin
Best Published Illustration: Out of Position Cover by Blotch
Best Short Fiction: “Drifting” by Kyell Gold
Best Short Subject or Series: The Penguins of Madagascar, produced by Dreamworks Animation
Best Game: Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time, for the PS3, developed by Insomniac Games

With two more awards under his belt, Kyell Gold has passed Stan Sakai as the recipient of the most UMAs.

Avatar isn’t furry. Its inclusion on the ballot undermines everything the UM stands for within the non-mainstream furry subculture.

PS- I’m so glad OOP won, Dev is so hawt.

I’m very happy for Kyell and his accomplishments. I mean, he’s a lock every year, but it’s still a huge honor to have the most in history, and OoP was a great book.

Seeing Rick win for Housepets! was a real treat. I’ve been a fan of his for years.

I’m assuming Cameron accepted his in person and gave an egotistical speech… before he got humped to death.

Oh, for a perfect world.

Kind of weird to think that Gold shares an award with guys like Cameron… and Immelmann.

Little irritated that Concessions won, particularly over Lackadaisy. I used to read it, and it’s fairly good I guess, but not worthy of the prize. Lackadaisy is just pure fantastic. Better art, better writing and no reliance on shock humour.

Housepets! however I’m very happy won. One of my favourite comics, and one of the only areas I voted in.

I expected Avatar to win and it did indeed much to my chargrin and curse at voting predictability. Apart from the debate on the film’s ‘furry’ credential, I personally feel a sense of dismay that people have gone for a visual orgy rather than story substaince, which I argue is stronger in the likes of ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’, ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ and ‘Up’.

Avatar… Pfft I’m sick of this. Not only is it not furry it was also a ripped off film. Watch Disney’s Pocahontas and you will see it’s the exact same plot. I can’t decide which to be more angery at. I do realize though that there never are many spots for movie, but come on putting Up in there? It was just a talking dog no athropomorphism there.
