While hearing that Kyell Gold has been nominated for an award may seem old news by this point, hearing that he was nominated for an award by decades old, non-furry science fiction club adds a new level of legitimacy to the fandom.

FA: United 2010 saw the awards ceremony for the 2009 Ursa Major Awards. Nine winners across ten categories received awards based on votes from fans. The full list of winners are below.

After the first title in the Cupcakes brand, Kyell Gold’s Bridges, was published, we’ve been interested in finding out what the other two authors running this project were working on. Kevin “Rikoshi” Frane is up next with an as-yet-unnamed story set in a medieval fantasy world, and we’ve managed to squeeze a few details out him.

Voting for the 2009 Ursa Major Awards starts today, and the nominee list has been officially released (though many of you already saw the leaked list yesterday). The entire nomination list can be seen on the Ursa Major website. I’m not going over everything, just being snarky about a few of them.

About 4 hours after Kevin Frane’s novel The Seventh Chakra became available to purchase, we were cornering him and demanding to know what the next novel was. We managed to squeeze out some info on where the author is going next with his as yet unnamed third novel.

Let’s be honest here, guys, reading is a lot of work. It can’t easily be done while multitasking. It requires a level of concentration that TV and video games (and porn) don’t. And unlike most of my recreational activities, I can’t really enjoy it drunk. But by far my biggest deterrent against reading is that books are long, and I’m a busy guy, god dammit. So how can I get my short quality furry fiction fix without playing the Russian Roulette that is YiffStar?

Despite all the recolors and reposts of visual art in the fandom, the written word has been one of the harder things to steal. Unless you’re a dedicated furry without a basic knowledge of current technology.
