It’s Ursa Majors season again, and all the finalists have been announced. And just like how Entertainment Weekly pretends they know best, Weasel Wordsmith has its Editor’s Choice list of winners!

The Cupcakes series are intended to be “short and sweet” novellas, and for better or worse, The Peculiar Quandary of Simon Artyle fits the bill.

After the first title in the Cupcakes brand, Kyell Gold’s Bridges, was published, we’ve been interested in finding out what the other two authors running this project were working on. Kevin “Rikoshi” Frane is up next with an as-yet-unnamed story set in a medieval fantasy world, and we’ve managed to squeeze a few details out him.

Voting for the 2009 Ursa Major Awards starts today, and the nominee list has been officially released (though many of you already saw the leaked list yesterday). The entire nomination list can be seen on the Ursa Major website. I’m not going over everything, just being snarky about a few of them.

About 4 hours after Kevin Frane’s novel The Seventh Chakra became available to purchase, we were cornering him and demanding to know what the next novel was. We managed to squeeze out some info on where the author is going next with his as yet unnamed third novel.

Does the furry fandom have a James Bond equivalent yet? Don’t say Spy Fox, fuck that guy. I’m going to submit that Arkady Ryswife, the ferret protagonist of Kevin Frane’s newest novel The Seventh Chakra is the fandom’s official badass secret agent.

The third weekend of January will see throngs of furries flocking to the Bay Area for Further Confusion, presumably to compete in a fursuit decathlon and freak out the staff of the new hotel location. And in addition to panels about connecting with your inner fox or whatever, artists and authors will be showcasing their new works. Among them are Kevin Frane and Kyell Gold, both of whom will premiere their new novels. Real fucking books, y’all.
